Despite a crazy busy shooting schedule, I’ve been working hard to make time for pictures of my baby girl, Addie, during her first year. They change so quickly during those twelve months, and if you blink it’s gone. She’s growing up on me way too fast.

I shot this for her 9-month-old session. I waited a little too long to capture it, though, and unfortunately my husband had already harvested all of our own wheat. To top it off, both Addie and I had the worst summer colds, and I almost canceled the whole thing. But wheat harvest in our area was nearly over, and I had scrambled to track down a field that hadn’t been cut yet. This one was scheduled to be cut the very next morning, so it was now or never. I’m so grateful we did it because I think it worked out even better than I’d imagined. The wheat had grown so heavy that it had fallen in a few places making it the perfect spot to photograph her.

My main purpose was to photograph her standing up as it was a recent milestone for her. But I can’t help it, I just love this image of my baby girl bathed in sunshine. You could eat the light with a spoon, and her solemn gaze just makes me want come out from behind the camera and smooch her chubby cheeks.

Meet sweet baby Finn all of nine days new. His big sister Hazel isn’t quite sure what to make of him, that is when she slows down enough to take a closer look. But she still thinks he’s pretty special. Especially his little button nose.

This session was photographed at the family’s lodge on their working cattle ranch near Moses Lake, Wash. I loved incorporating all of their dramatic decorating and antique pieces into Finn’s newborn pictures. The clock reminds me of how they’re only this little for such a little while. They’re probably lucky the rocking chair wouldn’t fit in my car because I absolutely swooned over it.

I had hoped to also photograph some images outside to show more of the ranch. The views and rugged terrain are just breathtaking there. Unfortunately gale force winds decided to welcome the new baby too. It was so windy we could hardly close the heavy wooden doors to the lodge. No worries, though, just think of all the fun I’ll have using the old barn, corrals, and basalt rock in his pictures as he grows up!

Yes, yes I’m totally and completely behind on my blog posts. It’s been a wild ride of a summer, which is a wonderful thing. Unfortunately I’ve not been keeping up on my corresponding blog posts. But never fear, I’ve got a ton of upcoming posts for you.

If you’re a subscriber to my Facebook Page, you’ve gotten to see snippets of some of my recent work. But let’s be real, what Facebook makes up in convenience it loses in image quality. It’s famous for chewing up and spitting out images. Not to mention they’re so tiny. That’s one of the best things about having a blog. Not only to I get to natter on about my work, but the images take center stage, and they’re showed off in their best light — big!

Meet sweet, sweet little Julia. I’ve been photographing her big brother for years and years. I was bummed that I couldn’t do her newborn session, but I was on maternity leave myself because she was born just a few weeks after my daughter. Luckily, I was given the chance to photograph her later on. I might even go so far as to say I like this age even better. They’re sitting up, and their little personalities are just starting to emerge. Plus, they’re not mobile yet, so you can still do lots of fun set ups with them.

I’ll be the first to admit I often get picture envy for images I’ve taken for my clients. I wish I had the same pictures of my own children. You can put the images of Julia in the lamb hat near the top of that list for sure.

Sweet, sweet baby Blake. I didn’t think it was possible, but she get’s more adorable every time I see her. Thank goodness she’s one of my Milestone babies, so I get my fix every couple of months. I can’t wait to put together her album at the end of her first year. It’s amazing to see how much a baby changes in just twelve short months.

Spring was just starting to blossom after a long dreary winter when we made these, her 8-month images. What a perfect time to have a vintage tea party! The teddy bears in the first image belong to Blake’s mama from when she was a little girl. How sweet is that?

Sweet little Jackson, my have you changed! I can’t believe it was only a few months ago when I photographed your newborn session in August. You’ve gone from tiny to tank! I loved getting to use the same basket, a family heirloom, in both sessions. I think it really shows how much he’s grown. Kudos to grandma for running it over to us shortly after inspiration struck. Of course, I had to get some images of big sis, Maddie, too. She always put’s a smile on my face.

The “E” Family: Warden Family Portraits

I had the pleasure of getting to spend some time with the “E” Family. Aren’t they all gorgeous? Little “M”, was just turning 6-months-old. He’s such a cute little tank. He wasn’t sure to make of me, though, as he watched me with his big brown eyes. I’ve got to say, I love the quiet ones.

This cutie patootie sure knows how to rock the ‘hawk with her hairdo. I just wanted to gobble her up she’s so sweet. Can you believe it’s been four months already? Just look how much baby Blake has changed from her newborn session. I do so love this age when babies start smiling and interacting with the big wide world. Because of the coming holiday, we went with a festive look for these images. Plus it was a good excuse to get pictures of the other “kids”, the family’s two adorable French Bulldogs.

The “Z” Family : Richland Family Photography

Meet the “Z” Family. They’re a fun lot who are up for anything no matter what the weather. We originally planned to do this session just before Thanksgiving, and then the big snow storms started hitting. Fast forward almost two weeks later, and the snow was still there. That’s almost unheard of for this area. You won’t catch me complaining because it made for some very cool pictures. However, as I write this, it’s raining outside, melting all that gorgeous snow away. Well it was nice while it lasted, and I have the pictures to prove it.

Sadie & Hazel : Moses Lake Child Portraits

Cousins, kittens, and cutie pies; oh my! Talk about a precocious combination. I recently got to check in with the always adorable Sadie Mae and her 8-month-old cousin Hazel. You all last saw Hazel at her Summerland newborn session. Hasn’t she changed! She’s got two teeth now, and she’s sitting up on her own. I’m thinking big beautiful eyes and some serious cheekbone action must run in the family. By the way, miss Sadie isn’t just a big cousin, soon she’ll also be a big sister! Keep an eye out for her momma’s maternity session I shot this weekend, and, of course, the coming newborn session scheduled for next month. August is just full of newborns. I can’t wait!
