Oh my goodness! Can you believe it’s already a brand new year? Happy 2012 everyone!

I’m so looking forward to this year. If it’s anything like last year I’m in for a quite a ride. I can’t wait to discover all the beautiful images that are going to be created during the next twelve months. I feel like each and every one is a blessing, and I’m so thankful to my clients who are my muse and my inspiration for every image I create. Without you these pictures would never have come to life. So thank you from the bottom of my heart!

What better way to start off a new year than with a new blog post. You’ve probably been wondering what’s taking me so long as it’s been months since my last post. Let me tell you, in the fall of 2010 I had a newborn baby to take care of, but it didn’t feel half as busy as the fall of 2011. You all kept me hopping! I’ve got so many beautiful sessions to share as a result so keep a look out.

Meet the lovely Bre and her husband Jarred. I was really excited to find out she wanted to do her maternity portrait session at a rustic barn. I spent quite awhile driving around the area checking out good spots. I saw this old hop drying barn and knew it would be striking to photograph.

No one was home but a lone tiny kitten on the front porch when I stopped by the first time. So I dug through my car for a blank piece of paper, and I left my business card and a note in their front door asking permission to use the location the following week. Of course, in the country not everyone uses their front door on a regular basis, so I dusted off my old journalism skills and tracked down a phone number to call them a few days later. Not only did they not think I was a crazy stalker, but they were more than willing to let me use their beautiful property for this portrait session. Let that be a lesson, don’t be afraid to cold call someone if you find a location you really love. Most people are more than willing to help you out.

Ben : Tri-City Child and Family Photographer

It had been about a year since I had seen the adorable Ben and his mom, Margo. His last session had produced some of my favorite images of 2009, so you could say I had high expectations for this go round. I needn’t have worried. When Ben showed up in suspenders, wingtip shoes, and a fedora I thought I had died and gone to photo heaven. I’m pretty sure Ben is used to the ladies fawning all over him, and I must say I was no exception. To make this session even more fun, his beautiful and sweet mom is expecting another baby in a few months. I love, love, love the maternity shots we got. Scrumptious light, a golden location, and beautiful, stylish details always add up to memorable images.

Kim : Moses Lake Pregnancy Photographer

The lovely Kim and I recently got together for her maternity portrait session. You might recognize Kim as the mom of the adorable and precocious Sadie Mae who recently had her own portrait session. Well now Kim is expecting her second child, another sweet baby girl. I just can’t wait to see how adorable this child is going to be. You’ll just have to see for yourself after I post images from the newborn session some time later this month. For now, though, this session was all about celebrating her pregnancy. Kim wanted to get some with very dramatic lighting and and an artistic feeling to them. I was more than happy to oblige. I must also give a shout out to her awesome husband who was such a good sport about helping me carry my massively heavy studio lighting bag down their basement stairs. To quote him, “There’s nothing light about this bag!” Hehehehe. Too true.

Katy : Othello Maternity Photography

Meet the lovely Katy. She and her husband are expecting their first child in August. I know what they’re having, but I’m not telling. You’ll just have to wait until next month after I show off their newborn session. Katy and I actually share a few things in common. We’re both mostly city girls who married a farmer and moved to a small town. And she’s adventurous. She had no problem heading out to some beautiful but remote scenery to get these awesome photos despite being almost eight months pregnant. It was so worth it though, don’t you think?

I’ve got just one word for this family: adorable! Of course, come to think of it, I could also add sweet, fun, and charming to their list. Their daughter (check out those perfect strawberry blond curls) just turned one year old, and this summer she’ll become a big sister to a brand new baby brother. We photographed the session in their family’s working Concord grape vineyard. I just love getting to incorporate a family’s heritage into their photographs. It makes the photos just that much more special.

I’m so excited to reveal my latest maternity session. Stephanie and her husband, Allan, are just the most gorgeous couple, don’t you think? Their baby is going to be a knockout, and I can’t wait to see the little one when he or she arrives in a few weeks. I can’t get more specific because these two are doing the brave thing and not finding out the sex of the baby beforehand. Me, I’m much too impatient for that, so my hat is off to them. I also think it was so cute how super excited Allan is about becoming a daddy. When he wasn’t in the photos, he was bidding for the “dream stroller” on eBay. So, did you get it?

Molly : Tri-City Maternity Photography

My latest Maternity session was special because the subject is a friend of mine. Molly is also a photographer, so no pressure huh? Most recently she was at the Tri-City Herald for most of the time I was at the Yakima Herald-Republic. Even though our newspapers were in direct competition, I had long admired her work. Sadly, we didn’t actually meet until almost two years after I left my newspaper to get married and move to Eastern Washington. I was covering the Washington state track meet in Pasco for the Seattle Post Intelligencer when we finally met. There are so few women newspaper photojournalists that I knew right away who she was. We’ve been friends ever since.

It’s no surprise that Molly chose a gorgeous location for her photo shoot. It overlooks the Yakima River near Benton City. She and her husband, Gary, are adorable together. They’re waiting till the birth to find out the sex, too. How romantic!

Meghan : Walla Walla Maternity Photographer

I’m super excited to be showing my latest maternity session. Meghan was a dream to work with. She has a classic beauty that translates so well in pictures. I joked with her that I think she looks like the way she decorates her home: very European with a Parisian or Italian Renaissance flair. In light of her decorating style, it wasn’t surprising she was also interested in going for an artsy and sophisticated look for her maternity photos. I can’t wait to do the newborn photos in a few weeks!

I love Maternity Sessions. It is right up near the top for one of my favorite things to photograph. I feel honored that I’ve been chosen to document such a momentous time. These women are on the cusp of bringing new life into the world. Their bodies are powerful and beautiful, and I want my photographs to reflect that. I also find it a quiet and introspective time as they get ready for what’s to come, and I think it’s important to capture that too.

Meet Corie and her lovely family. Her husband, Ryan, and son, Tye, where so loving. I was really looking forward to her session because she wanted to be outside for it. It was a beautiful summer day and the sunlight-kissed meadow near the river was lovely.
