Welcome Baby Finn : Moses Lake Newborn Photography

Meet sweet baby Finn all of nine days new. His big sister Hazel isn’t quite sure what to make of him, that is when she slows down enough to take a closer look. But she still thinks he’s pretty special. Especially his little button nose.

This session was photographed at the family’s lodge on their working cattle ranch near Moses Lake, Wash. I loved incorporating all of their dramatic decorating and antique pieces into Finn’s newborn pictures. The clock reminds me of how they’re only this little for such a little while. They’re probably lucky the rocking chair wouldn’t fit in my car because I absolutely swooned over it.

I had hoped to also photograph some images outside to show more of the ranch. The views and rugged terrain are just breathtaking there. Unfortunately gale force winds decided to welcome the new baby too. It was so windy we could hardly close the heavy wooden doors to the lodge. No worries, though, just think of all the fun I’ll have using the old barn, corrals, and basalt rock in his pictures as he grows up!

Meet sweet little Jada, or Jadabug as her lovely momma calls her. What a beautiful little angel Jada is. Pair that with her gorgeous big brother, Julien, and I think mom and dad you’re going to have your hands full in a few years. One of my favorite things about my work is I get to document over time so many meaningful events in my client’s lives. I had the honor of photographing the wedding of Carla and Eric a few years ago. It’s such a privilege to now be capturing some of the first images of their second child. Thanks guys! I hope you love these images as much as I do.

Meet handsome little Gabriel. He is quite the early bird. In fact, he was meant to be a late January 2011 baby, but he decided 2010 was more his style. Plus he was just listening to his dad who said he wanted the new tax right off. Well there you go, one super adorable tax deduction.

I had such a hard time narrowing down which images to show here. So I decided, why fight it. Show em what you love.

As promised here are more images of my Addie. She’s a sweet little thing. A smiler, as you can see. Everyone keeps asking me how it’s going the second time around, and truthfully I couldn’t be happier. Everything has been so much easier with her. I don’t know if it’s a credit to my considerably more developed newborn skills, or just her sweetheart personality. Either way I’m not complaining.

Her big brother just adores her too, calling her his, “new best friend.” He hasn’t shown an inch of jealousy, either. Sadly, though, I don’t have any good pictures yet of the two of them together. The day after we came home from the hospital he got pink eye. He was just getting over that when he came down with the stomach flu (I’m pretty sure he got it when we went to the doctor’s office the first time.) Let’s just say I felt like I was married to my washing machine, Lysol wipes, and hand sanitizer as I tried to keep her from catching anything from her brother. Poor guy, all he wanted to do was snuggle her. He’s all better now though, so I’ll have to do another session with just the two of them. Won’t that be fun!

Little Vincent has the honor of being the earliest of my early birds so far this year. The little sweetie pie was in a hurry to check out his new family and decided to show up four weeks early. Yet despite such an early arrival he still weighed in at a whopping seven pounds, two ounces! I guess when you’re ready, you’re ready. He was such a sleepy bunny, too. Pose after pose he just slept right through making him a shoo-in for easiest baby of the year too.

You remember Kim’s maternity portrait session a few weeks ago? Well, she’s here, the lovely Marlee Georgia! That middle name is so cute I just had to include it. Is the first photo of her and her momma not just the sweetest moment? Kim is one of several of my newborn session moms this summer having their second child. Because I’ll be in a similar situation soon myself, I watch their adjustment to the new baby with keen interest. Most of them say it’s so different the second time around. They’re more laid back about the whole thing, but sleep is an even rarer commodity because they can’t sleep whenever the baby sleeps this time around. Sigh, I’m not looking forward to that part at all. But if I get a snuggly bug as cute as little Marlee here, it will be so worth it.

Sweet little Katherine holds a special place in my heart. She’s the first child of a very dear friend of mine. I’m so happy I was able to photograph her newborn session. I have to say, that although she looks like her daddy, she already seems to be showing signs of her mom’s sassy personality. The little over achiever decided to show up almost ten days early after I had promised her mom first time babies rarely come early. Shows what I know I’ll add one thing, though, all those super loud and obnoxious toys she and her husband have given my son over the years also come in pink! Hehehe. Payback is so awesome!

Oh my goodness, little Blake is just a stunner don’t you think? She also, apparently, is punctual. I believe she’s my first newborn ever to arrive on the actual due date! Way to go Blake! I’m so glad to finally meet you. You all saw her beautiful mother’s maternity session earlier in the summer. Well here’s the much anticipated result!

I just love, love, love the first image. It’s perfection.

Wilder. I love that name. If I were ever to have another boy it would totally be on my list. The name just has a certain flair to it, just like this handsome fellow. And like his name, this little guy was no shrinking violet. I photographed him when he was nearly one month old. The funny thing about newborns is the older they get the harder it is to get them to….well sleep like a baby. Now as you can imagine, I have quite a few baby soothing techniques up my sleeve. Yet, sometimes the best technique is one the parents have already figured out. Cue super dad. When little Wilder needed to get back into a newborn zen state of mind, his daddy would load him up in the Baby Bjorn and off they’d go for a stroll around the block. They both covered a lot of ground this way, but hey, it worked beautifully. Back would come dad with a little cardio fit in, and bouncing baby boy would be fast asleep and ready for more pictures. Way to go dad!
