I have a confession to make. It was my dearest wish to have a separate blog post for each and everyone of these sessions, but time once again time bit me in the butt. So many sessions near and dear to my heart, yet so little time to blog about them. While I did sneak a few from this time period in on you already, I was going to use the slower winter months to catch up on all of the rest of my late fall and winter blog posts. I didn’t really get that breather. That’s a good thing, though!

Allow me to introduce you to one very handsome fellow: Jax. Watch out, though, he’ll steal your heart quicker than you can say future cowboy. Jax was definitely rearing to go for his newborn portrait session. His mamma went into labor while looking at her maternity pictures from this session. I guess he was just ready for his own close-up because he showed up three weeks early. Look at all that hair! Imagine what it would have been if he’d held out for a few more weeks. Regardless, he was a total angel for his session. I absolutely love his images. I especially love when it’s warm enough we can take a newborn outside to show off our beautiful landscape. We might not have many trees, but we do have open skies and expansive vistas.

I had the pleasure of photographing this lovely family’s oldest son when he was a baby a few years ago. Fast forward a few years, and now it’s time to photograph little sister’s pictures. She was all smiles and chubby cheeks, just like her brother was. How fun is that? I just wanted to nibble on those little toes! What a beautiful family they make don’t you think?

By the way, I nabbed that red rocker straight out of the son’s room as soon as I saw it. Not only did it photograph beautifully, but it belonged to his grandfather which makes it ten times more meaningful than anything I could ever bring. And speaking of grandpa, a big shot out to him, too. He was the one who picked out, all by himself, the outfit his granddaughter is wearing in the yellow basket. I’m thinking a certain little cutie pie already has her granddaddy wrapped around her little finger.

For funsies every once in awhile I enter the I Heart Faces weekly challenge. I haven’t done so in awhile, but I couldn’t resist this week’s theme: “By The Book”. I adore using books in my images because I think it’s such an important part of childhood. In fact, I had a hard time narrowing it down which image to use for this challenge. I decided on this one because I love the light, the lilacs make me dream of spring, and I couldn’t resist her little paintbrush pigtail.

Little Miss “E” and Mr. “M” are just about the cutest cousins ever don’t you think? I do declare they also win the award for best behavior too. They were both so easy going and just a joy to work with. They were up for anything.

We had a lot of fun with all the locations and outfits we used for this child portrait session. Check out my take on a urban look in the first pic below! I couldn’t have dreamed up better lighting if I’d planned it weeks in advance. I love the storybook feel to the woods images too. I don’t think Miss “E” wanted to take off her pettiskirt. She was having such a good time twirling!

The last location produced one of my favorite images. I adore the image of Miss “E” in black and white on the chair. Who needs pictures with everyone smiling in them all the time. I love her soulful, serious gaze. I can’t help it, there’s just something about the quiet ones that draws me to them.

Yes, yes I’m totally and completely behind on my blog posts. It’s been a wild ride of a summer, which is a wonderful thing. Unfortunately I’ve not been keeping up on my corresponding blog posts. But never fear, I’ve got a ton of upcoming posts for you.

If you’re a subscriber to my Facebook Page, you’ve gotten to see snippets of some of my recent work. But let’s be real, what Facebook makes up in convenience it loses in image quality. It’s famous for chewing up and spitting out images. Not to mention they’re so tiny. That’s one of the best things about having a blog. Not only to I get to natter on about my work, but the images take center stage, and they’re showed off in their best light — big!

Meet sweet, sweet little Julia. I’ve been photographing her big brother for years and years. I was bummed that I couldn’t do her newborn session, but I was on maternity leave myself because she was born just a few weeks after my daughter. Luckily, I was given the chance to photograph her later on. I might even go so far as to say I like this age even better. They’re sitting up, and their little personalities are just starting to emerge. Plus, they’re not mobile yet, so you can still do lots of fun set ups with them.

I’ll be the first to admit I often get picture envy for images I’ve taken for my clients. I wish I had the same pictures of my own children. You can put the images of Julia in the lamb hat near the top of that list for sure.

Happy Birthday Drew : Prosser Child Photography

I’ll be the first to say that I think my job is pretty amazing. I mean, how cool is it that I get to use what ever inspiration hits me, and turn it into an image that will become part of a family’s history. Take little Drew here. This wasn’t just a child portrait session for a 1-year-old. This was actually taken on his birthday. Here he is turning one. Even cooler, these images where taken at his grandparents vineyard, which Drew’s father is now farming, and maybe, someday Drew will farm it too. This past fall they took out the Concord grapes in order to replace them with wine grapes in the spring. So although the land hadn’t been bare like this for generations, it might have looked just like this when Drew’s grandpa, or maybe even great grandpa (I don’t know when it was for sure) put in the first vineyard.

Maybe it’s my journalism background, or maybe I just like to tell stories, but regardless, it got me thinking about how all of this can come together in a photo. Cue the beautiful rolling hills, the empty vineyards, the dirt road leading off in the distance, and the family’s vintage treasures, and you’ve got a really special picture that represents both the past and the future. Happy birthday Drew!

Meet handsome little Gabriel. He is quite the early bird. In fact, he was meant to be a late January 2011 baby, but he decided 2010 was more his style. Plus he was just listening to his dad who said he wanted the new tax right off. Well there you go, one super adorable tax deduction.

I had such a hard time narrowing down which images to show here. So I decided, why fight it. Show em what you love.

The C Family contacted me a few months ago. They were planning a big family celebration for Christmas. For the first time in years, everyone was going to be home for the holidays. To make the three-day weekend even more special, they would also be celebrating three birthdays and Dan, the family patriarch’s retirement. So yeah, it was a big deal, and they wanted a special way to remember the occasion. I was so honored that they chose me to capture the images from the last day of their gathering.
